Eco-tourism – a chance to give a second life to our villages

Ivan Rusev, environmentalist, told at a briefing on the prospects and challenges of ecotourism in the Odesa region.

Now actively developing eco-tourism in Australia, North America, Europe. It became popular since the 80-ies of XX century.

We need to preserve wildlife and give people the opportunity to rest there as eco-tourists. We need to create national parks in the region.

In order to enjoy the birds in the same Danube flooded areas, where it is possible to arrange such tourism, it is necessary to start there to build roads. Odesa region is unique for domestic travel, you can arrange a paradise for eco-tourism, but these need to be engaged in.

There is a type of internal eco-tourism – birdwatching, admiring the birds. In the US, tourism earns $ 5.5 billion a year. But it is more fashionably to build another bar and kill nature, rather than engage in birdwatching.

Odesa region has a unique resource – we have a Biosphere Reserve, there are national parks, I hope that Kuyalnik soon will be reserve. We in the Odesa region have 416 species of birds, and all over the world there are 9600. We have something to look at.

National Park “Tuzly Estuaries” and National Park Lower Dniester – this is what we need to save, as the apple of an eye. It’s our money, no one will receive money from the built-up area, but with the protected area – you can earn a lot of money.

When World War II ended, the outflow of tourists from the United States was overwhelming. And then the Americans made candy for its own citizens – 80% of the tourists stayed at home. They invited people in the reserves, see waterfalls, and have focused on the consumer. The same thing I now propose to Ukraine. You have to start with small – need to do information for children that this is a little bird or that this little plant – is unique, it is ours, it must be love. Love for native land begins with information, and it must be filed with love.

In America birdwatching brings in the US more than $ 5 billion of revenue. In Africa, people realized that the live animals will bring them more money than dead. In Kenya, a herd of elephants in the year brings 600 thousand dollars, lion – 27 thousand.

Two business centers-camping have been created on Tiligul and Belyaevka. One destroyed, and the second is made bar. Therefore, where will leave 380,000 euros – is not clear, information is too closed. Work on it officials of Belaievka and Rozdilna districts.

On objects of green areas – in reserves and national parks are no elective. Protected areas are often led not ecologists and biologists, but other people, so there is “sawing” of parks and nature reserves.

Need to invest in rural tourism, it is necessary to develop the rural economy and attract local residents to work in national parks and protected areas.

From 1985 to 2008 it took 23 years to create a national park. The idea to create ecovillage to show the culture of village and the beauty of nature. But to invest in eco-village no one wants.

Birdwatching, ecotourism – about such projects they talk, but I treat with caution, because it is difficult to find experts in the field.

Now in our region is realizing a project for the development of ecotourism. Its budget is 340 thousand euros, 10% of which provides a country that receives a grant. Foreign fund gave money to stimulate the development of the rural economy.

But while its implementation raises only questions. Especially because already had a negative experience with the opening of the tourist centers on Tiligul estuary and Belyaevka. In the city it has become a commonplace bar, on the estuary altogether destroyed.

The best option for the project would take two villages, tie them to the natural attractions and educate residents of hospitality. A year as a project is, but so far it has only uninformative website. The plans – construction of two camps, but they can be away from the property, and did not involve the local population, for which foreigners gave money. People need to be self-employed, should be able to earn.

Our country has acceded to the Convention on the protection of migratory birds. In observation of them have great prospects. The main resource of ecotourism – is specially protected territories. Main component of ecotourism – when a person goes to the environment and learns that surrounds it. If a person goes to nature, on a picnic – this is not ecotourism. Ecotourism should promote the development of local areas and involve local people. Birdwatching is particularly promising. If you do not attract the locals they become aggressive.

Birds – these are environmental indicators. If somewhere they become very little or a lot, it is a signal to the experts that with the natural environment is something going on.

All officials in the Odesa region positioned themselves as people, who are actively supporting the development of eco-tourism, but none of the bottom was not talking about how to keep those resources, for which tourists come here then. Officials must do everything to preserve these resources and not to rant.

Any official, saying that the region is promising for tourists, the first thing to think about is how to conserve natural resources. But the irresponsible handling of causes that loses all washed talk about eco-tourism. We have a huge coastline, estuaries and a huge number of birds, preserved steppe areas, architectural heritage, such as Trojans Shaft and Struve Geodetic Arc. National Park “Tuzly Estuaries” and Lower Dniester National Park – this is what we need to save, as the apple of an eye. It’s our money, no one will receive money from the built-up area, but with the protected area – you can earn a lot of money.

All this must be preserved and used for our benefit and benefit of future generations.
